This is a 1950s navy blue leather oval box handbag made by Bienen-Davis. It's trimmed in gold, has a snap closure, mirror on the inside and is stamped in gold "bienen-davis". Founded in 1931 in New York by Herbert Bienen and Edwin Davis, Bienen-Davis was an eminent maker of fine leather handbags in an era when glamour and attention to detail were paramount. Bienen-Davis flawlessly merged American design with Italian craftsmanship and soon found their bags on the sets of movies and television shows, worn by some of Hollywood’s most iconic celebrities, and even included in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s permanent collection. The Bienen-Davis Company is still around today and is the creation of Richard K. Bienen, the fourth generation of the Bienen family. It measures 9.5 in at it's widest point and 3 in tall and 5.5 in deep. The handle is 9 in. It's in very good vintage condition. Some scuffs on the outside. This is an authentic one of a kind vintage piece in wearable condition, that has been cleaned and repaired (if necessary). Flaws will be noted, but please ask any questions you may have as this is a FINAL SALE garment and cannot be returned. All items are measured flat the same way we measure our reproduction items. The maximum measurement is listed. Most vintage fabrics do not have stretch, so please take into consideration when looking at size.
